The Bleaching of Life

It is true that life has become easier over the years. But, new problems have come up the horizon too. One being, the focus has shifted from living to survival. It is hard not to wonder, ‘aren’t humans becoming more and more like the machines themselves?’

Some say look at the rich, be like them, they have it all figured out. Some have, so do some ‘non-rich’ people. Some people who have understood the essence of life and that no one is getting out alive. Those that have figured out what matters and what doesn’t.

But look at the others; hardly trusting, constantly worried, how to be that and this, always in stress to out perform themselves. Some of the most troubled souls are found among the wealthy. Not because of the money, just because of the misplaced priorities.

Soooo, what happened?

Somewhere along the way we got it all mixed up. The meaningful became meaningless and the meaningless became the meaning. Instead of humanity, ego takes over us, everything is measured by indices when the actual cannot be measured. Wealth and weapons are what determines the growth and strength of a nation.

We are slowly forgetting to play and to be slow and simple. Each day has become a performance against which we will be graded. Fake smiles when the soul cries, strangers applaud while lovers scheme. The more things you possess the more successful and greater the views.

There is nothing mundane anymore, everything has fallen in for the aesthetic trends. Not because we want to but because we have to. As lives became black and white, survival became the norm.

With each passing year the black is getting darker and the white lighter, and amidst this we lost the colours of life. We went wrong the day we started valuing quantity over quality, the day money mattered more than the person, the day appearing as something mattered more than the real. The day we complicated a simple life.

What can be done?

Recently I saw a documentary on harvest from medieval Europe. There was too much work, no machines to lighten the load. One crop failure meant years of starvation. Yet people were happy. Life was uncertain than now. Yet there were celebrations and games. Celebrating with people they loved, creating memories that mattered. Life was not a gimmick for just another social media post.

Simple but colourful. By simple I don’t mean devoid of luxuries, it means a life that feels like you. A life where you are truly alive and breathing. A life that hasn’t been bleached to fit a trend.

So if we focus on the right things, life is simple. And together we can paint this world in colours that reflect each one of us.

Keep thinking…

Keep Shining…

BE THE CHANGE 💕
